Gorilla Trekking - Mountain Gorilla View Lodge

Spend 3 nights near the Virunga Volcanoes at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge Lodge.

The Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is a new, mid-range lodge, perfectly situated for gorilla tracking in Rwanda. The lodge is located on the foothills of the Mount Sabinyo, a volcanic mountain that makes up the Virunga ranges. The lodge is about 15 minutes from the main entrance to Rwanda’s Park National des Volcans.

Mountain Gorilla View Lodge is an ecolodge with 30 spacious cottages. The cottages are made of stone and thatch. All cottage comes with a living area with a fireplace, en-suite facilities and a private veranda. The main lodge area has a restaurant serving home cooked food and a bar

Day 1
Arrive at Kigali Airport. Met and taked to the Genocide Memorial before enjoying lunch in Kigali. The drive to the lodge follows tthe road as it climbs to the base of the majestic volcanoes. Check into the lodge and overnight.

Day 2
As the first light of dawn breaks through the curtain of mist clinging to the summits, we meet the park authorities and make our way into the Parc National des Volcans. Tracking the gorillas through the unique vegetation can take several hours of challenging walking, in wet and muddy conditions. To see a gorilla, the trek will have been worth the hardship.

Day 3
There is the option of adding on a second Gorilla Trek or one of the many optional add ons. These should be pre-booked.

Day 4
Return transfer to Kigali.

There are ten groups/families of habituated gorillas in Volcanoes National Park. Gorillas do not stay in the same spot hence the need to do some tracking before you spend your magical one hour with them. They usually climb higher up the mountain in the dry season, and descend in the wet season, so your tour guide might have a general idea of where the group you are tracking might be during a particular season, but there are no guarantees that you will find them where you expect them to be.

  • Adjacent to the Parc National des Volcans and approximately 1 km from the main entrance to the Park.
  • 30 individual cottages constructed out of brick and tile.
  • Each has an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Being at altitude, it can get cold therefore each cottage has a fire in the room.
  • The lodge grounds are very well maintained and from here there are beautiful views of the volcanoes
  • Clients wishing to go gorilla trekking must be reasonably fit and able to handle walking for some time in the hilly and forested terrain.
  • If you have a cold, flu, or any other contagious infection, you should not go gorilla trekking.
  • Only one group of tourists can visit the mountain gorillas each day and you can only spend an hour with them.
  • You should keep a distance of 7m from the gorillas, and if the gorillas try to get close, try to move further away.
  • Try not to make sudden movements ehil ein the presence of the gorillas and keep your voices low, so as to maintain a relaxed atmosphere for the gorillas.
  • Do not eat or drink when you are with the gorillas
